Think Sydney and you think seafood. Fresh, succulent and lots of it. Yet with fabulous fresh produce, award winning wines, exciting restaurants and a confluence of culinary influences that seem to bring out the best in everything, it’s not all just juicy king prawns and barramundi. This is a rare opportunity to discover Sydney’s fantastic food scene with the woman in the know.
Sydney Pemberton, a renowned food writer and chef, loves good food and is passionate about sharing her knowledge. She is an authoritative source, having taught at the famed Sydney Seafood School and penned many a cookbook. Infact her book “From Water to Plate’’ is a must have for the serious fishetarian. You couldn’t ask for a better guide. Her tours, a combination of cooking, markets, shopping, tastings and restaurants are arranged over 3 days. It’s the perfect addition to a holiday in Australia, whether you are passing through Sydney or staying in the city for a while. You can choose to do just one day or all three depending on what you’ve got time for.
The emphasis is on seafood, how to buy it, prepare it, cook it perfectly and deliciously. You will be taken around the Sydney Fish Market, see the seafood auctions and choose fish for your session. There’s also a specially created session on barbeques - learn from the inventors of outdoor cooking on how to do it best. It’s an inspirational session with flavours and techniques that will have you crying out for summer sunshine. There’s a trip to the Growers Market for more fresh produce and discussions with impassioned producers. For those who prefer not to cook, but love their food and drink there’s a day of shopping and eating. You’ll be led to some of Sydney’s best kept food secrets; taste oils, cheeses and breads; lunch at the haunts of the locals. And there’s plenty of time to chat with your host about where to eat and where not to. We can arrange hotel accommodation for you within Sydney’s Central Business District and all transport to and from the tours is taken care of. |
