The base for this very special cooking holiday experience is situated 50 metres from the beach, in the small Mediterranean coastal hamlet of Askeli on Poros Island. Poros Island is 35 miles south west of Athens in the Saronic Gulf region of Greece.
Katerina Sakelliou will be your host for the duration of your 7- night stay. Katerina was born in Poros and is passionate about cooking. She is a professional chef with a keen interest and knowledge of the historical roots of Greek cooking. Katerina specialises in both traditional and modern Greek cooking.
The ancient Greeks were one of the first to discover the advantages of adding herbs and spices to their food. This process was used not only to enhance the flavours, but also provided medicinal benefits. Greek food is still to this day, a unique amalgamation of fresh, seasonal ingredients and a generous blend of these herbs and spices eg. thyme, dill, rosemary and oregano - which grow all over Greece.
Greece is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and has one of the largest coastal areas of any country in Europe, for this reason fish are integral to Greek food. Fresh seasonal vegetables are also a significant element in traditional Greek cooking and Greek food would not be Greek without the key ingredient - Olive Oil. Olives are grown and olive oil produced in many parts of Greece, including the local region.
Your stay in Poros will be very relaxed and the courses are limited to 10 people, ensuring you receive personal attention. The classes are fun and enjoyable, offering you the chance to experience real Greek culture, cook with fresh local ingredients and eat delicious food. Most importantly, you will have the chance to simply soak up the Mediterranean sun, leaving you refreshed and rejuvenated after this wonderful holiday! |
