The Priorat is one of the oldest and also one of the least densely populated districts of Catalonia, and although it is only eighty miles from Barcelona, it is as remote from a bustling city as could be possible. With it’s rich tradition of Catalan cuisine, its reputation as an excellent wine region and it’s outstanding olive oils it's the perfect setting for a true culinary retreat – all of which you will discover while in this beautiful, unspoilt region of Spain.
One of the hallmarks of Catalan cooking is its use of fresh, seasonal produce used in distinct and unexpected ways - a compelling blend of Roman, Moorish, Italian and French influences. The regions exuberant flavours will reveal themselves to you first hand as you cook and taste your way through the week. Alicia, your chef and host started cooking with her mother at the age of 3 and is your expert guide to the food of her homeland. All classes are hands on, (some outdoors over live coals!), fun and undaunting and when you’re not cooking there’s meals at great local restaurants. There’s happily also a great emphasis on the region’s famed wine with numerous vineyard visits and tastings. You’ll to discover and appreciate the exceptional DOC Priorat and DO Montsant wines as well the incredible DO Siurana olive oils.
You’ll both cook and stay at a luxurious private hotel recently restored from a fourth generation residence, complete with barrel filled wine cellar and a wine tasting room. Situated in a small Catalan town, surrounded by mountains, with view that stretch for miles, the night sky is spectacular as are the walks. |
