Rioja is best visited between April and October, when temperatures are mild and the fields are flush with ripe produce. However if you do come in winter, bring warm clothing as temperatures can be very low in the mountainous areas. You can enjoy the fine wines of Rioja year-round, however in September the town of Logrono comes alive with the annual wine festival, which celebrates the new harvest. There are street processions, traditional grape crushings, bull fights, fireworks, music and dance performances and above all, you will be mixing with locals and participating in their celebrations.
